As of Wednesday December 3rd, 2025, the Lung Biology & CF Research Center has achieved a Platinum level My Green Lab® certification! This makes the floor the first lab group at the University of Iowa to be My Green Lab® certified. Special thanks to Emma Stapleton-Thornell, PhD & Lorena Tran for spearheading this endeavor.

The My Green Lab® certification is offered through Impact laboratories, a 501c3 non-profit. The 2,500 currently certified labs across 45 countries have seen over a 4x return on investment in regards to money saved while reducing environmental impact. These labs include 30/50 of the largest biotech and pharma companies along with 40 major research institutions. The Platinum level certification indicates that a lab is adherent to 70% or more of My Green Lab®'s environmental guidelines. These include areas such as waste management, chemical use, water use, efficient resource management, energy usage, and many more.
